Family Trip to West Malaysia - Dec 2007

Had planned a 12 days road trip to West Malaysia on bus and decided on the first and last 2 destinations. First were Malacca and Kuala Lumpur (KL) and the last were Penang and Johor Bahru (JB). Accommodation was booked till KL and rest was unknown........

8th December 2007
Bags were packed with 5 sets of days clothes, 2 sets of PJ, 2 sweaters for each person. Snacks, water bottles. Each was given a day bag pack and CP had to carry the kids and his own clothes with mine for myself to carry. All in all, CP had 2 bags and 1 each for the rest.

9th December 2007
Adults woke up at 6.00am to do the final preparation for our road trip to West Malaysia. Kids woke up at 7.00am. We had 4 S$22.00 bus tickets which were bought 3 weeks before from 5 Stars for our first stop to Malacca. The bus ride was scheduled to leave at 8.30am from Golden Mile.

Left the house at 7.30am without breakfast, got the taxi from the main road and waited for Chin Poh (CP) at the foot of our block but turned around to get the stroller which I had forgotten.

Arrived at Golden Mile Complex at 8.10am, waited around and left at 8.35am for Malacca. Had our bread on bus but Rachel was not comfortable because the sign said no food in bus.

4 hours ride and had a meal break in between. The ride was good and the kids had their naps. The movie played was Ghost Rider.

Finally reached our first destination at 12.45pm, Malacca Sentral (bus station). Had our lunch at A&W for abt RM35.00. Corney Dog, 2 pc chicken Meal, 2 kids meals (2 free water bottles which came in handy at the later part of the trip). According to CP, A&W chicken tasted better than KFC

Bought our next destination bus tickets to Kulua Lumpur, 11th Dec 2007 for RM 9.40 from KKKL company (2 hrs journey). We asked around the decided on the company with the least number of seats on the bus (29 seats). Buses leaving at every hour and we chose the 11.30am slot, booked the 1st 4 seats and took a taxi (RM 15.00) to Emperor Hotel.

Emperor Hotel - 3 Stars with a pool on 7th floor (did not see tat). Bought it online from Wotif (recommended by SIL) http://www.wotif.com/ for RM 102/nite - Standard Room (charged RM 10.00 for service fee) for 2 nites with 2 adult breakfast included. Realised that by going direct, we could have gotten a better deal. Saw banners outside the hotel stated RM85++ for a Superior room which would cost RM 97.75 nett. Didn't like it as it was rather run down but location was pretty good with a food court across from it, Pizza Hut on the right and A Famosa Chicken Rice further down.

After checked in, we went for a walk which was rather a long walk. Cut thru the lanes and came to Christ Church and there was a wind mill opposite it.

As we walked further down, we came to Newton Cultural Food Centre which is next to Mahkota. Food was cheap and good. We had our tea-break there, orange juice cost RM1.70 but they added water and syrup. We went back there for our dinner again. There was a Sporean Claypot chicken rice for RM4.50, chinese sausage and salted fish at 50 sen each.

They had photos of
Fann Wong and Christopher Lee

Chee Cheong Fan was another
good choice

After dinner, we went to Mahkota for shopping and later in the evening took a taxi back to the hotel for RM10.00 Taxi did not switch on their metres and fares were quoted by the drivers. No Bargaining power here in Malacca. Emperor did provide free shuttle which we knew too late and never did make it on time.

Rachel was too tired and went to bed early. The boys went out for supper in one of the small lanes for Roti Cani (prata) and spent RM 2.80 for 1 plain, 1 egg, kopi and milo. Heard food was good without my share included.

Bed was a king size and planned for Jerald to sleep in the sleeping bag. But CP was worried for Jerald and he took the floor instead for the first nite.

10th December 2007
Kids woke up early, we started boiling water and did some washing. CP was trying to hang the clothes line in the room as none was found in the bathroom. He was trying to tie across the room from the mirror to the other light on the wall when the mirror came crashing down. Fortunately, it did not break. Phew!!!

Brought the kids for breakfast and was charged RM10.00 for jerald's portion. Overall was a simple spread but the kids ate well. Took some picture outside the main lobby and began our day tour of Malacca.

We turned to the left side of the hotel and after 10 mins of walking, we came to Sam Po Kong (Chinese Temple)and behind it was Bukit Cina (Chinese Cemetery) See map of Malacca. http://www.malaysia-maps.com/malacca-big03.htm

At Sam Po Kong, met a group of Chinese Tourists and their guide whom was giving a demo of the density of the well water. The glass was filled up above the brim and yet the water did not spill. The kids were fascinated by it.

We carried on with our walk and came to Jonker Walk and visited the Cheng Ho Museum. Adult for RM10.00 and child for RM5.00. Felt it was a good deal as we spent an hour over with a video clip and puppet show included.

The museum people recommended us to the Hoe Kee Chicken rice at the corner of the street. No. 4 Jonker Street.
